Malaz Foundation for Women’s Support welcomes the Arab Republic of Egypt’s election to the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child, as one of the most important regional mechanisms of the African Union responsible for monitoring the implementation of the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child and strengthening comprehensive child protection systems across the continent.
The foundation considers this achievement an important opportunity to enhance Egypt’s role in advancing children’s rights across Africa, particularly in light of the growing challenges facing children and girls, including violence, harmful practices, school dropout, economic exploitation, and related issues of social justice and equality.
Malaz Foundation for Women’s Support affirms that this membership provides a platform to strengthen regional policies related to child protection, exchange successful African experiences, and link child protection efforts with women’s empowerment as complementary pathways toward achieving sustainable development.
At the same time, the foundation stresses that this step represents a responsibility that requires strengthening child protection systems at the national level, through combating all forms of violence against children, addressing harmful practices such as female genital mutilation and child marriage, supporting the right to education, and developing a child-friendly justice system.
Malaz Foundation for Women’s Support calls for maximizing the benefits of this membership by enhancing cooperation between governmental entities and civil society, ensuring that African and international commitments are translated into effective policies and programs that improve the realities of children and girls in Egypt.
In conclusion, the foundation affirms that protecting children is a shared societal responsibility, and that this membership represents an opportunity to promote a comprehensive rights-based approach grounded in justice and equality, and to build a safer future for coming generations.
