Following the publication of its policy paper on precarious work among women in Egypt’s agricultural and industrial sectors, Malaz Foundation for Women’s Support has begun moving from research to field-based intervention through the “From Protection to Change” program. The program seeks to develop interventions that are more closely grounded in the lived realities of women workers and responsive to their needs in conditions of precarious employment.
As part of this effort, the Foundation conducted the program’s first two-day training, entitled “Know Your Rights,” bringing together women and girls from groups particularly affected by precarious forms of employment. Participants included daily wage workers, women working in the agricultural sector and factories, women engaged in temporary, seasonal, and informal work, as well as women with limited literacy.
