A recent report issued by the Malaz Foundation for Women's Support reveals the continued prevalence of violence against women and girls in Egypt during the second quarter of 2026. The report emphasizes that the documented incidents should not be viewed as isolated or unrelated cases, but rather as manifestations of a recurring pattern of violence across different contexts, exacerbated by the absence of adequate preventive intervention to halt escalation before it results in serious crimes.

Between April and June 2026, the Foundation documented 128 incidents of violence against women and girls, including 60 cases of sexual harassment, 41 cases of physical assault, and 27 femicides (killings of women and girls). According to the report, these figures reflect not only the scale of the phenomenon but also the widespread nature of violence across both public and private spheres. Violence continues to occur within families, workplaces, public spaces, transportation, and educational institutions, underscoring the broad range of environments in which women are exposed to abuse.

The report further concludes that the documented cases reveal a recurring pattern that reproduces itself through similar mechanisms and predictable pathways of escalation. Many incidents begin with violations of personal dignity, bodily autonomy, or psychological integrity—such as sexual harassment, threats, and psychological abuse—before progressing to repeated physical assaults and, in some cases, culminating in the use of weapons or the killing of women.
