Malaz Foundation for Women’s Support has issued a specialised policy paper entitled “Precarious Work among Women in the Industrial and Agricultural Sectors: Protection Gaps and Risks of Exploitation.” The paper provides a rights-based and analytical examination of an issue affecting a broad segment of women workers, while proposing a new approach to addressing daily, temporary, and seasonal forms of employment. This step reflects growing attention to the challenges faced by women in the labour market.

Malaz seeks to move beyond the conventional framing of precarious work by examining the relationship between employment arrangements and the level of effective protection available to women workers. The paper analyses the factors that leave some women more exposed to protection gaps, particularly in contexts involving multiple employers, intermediaries, and contractors, as well as changing workplaces and employment seasons.

A distinctive feature of the paper is its introduction of the concept of “Rights Follow the Worker” as a new entry point for rethinking protection systems. Under this approach, women’s rights should not be wholly contingent upon the stability of an employment contract or the continuity of a particular employer. Rather, protection should remain attached to the worker and continue to apply as she moves between employers, employment seasons, and different workplaces.
